Tasmanian Police Scanner

I’ve just installed Radio Feed 1.5 on my server, a nice free piece of software for radio scanner streaming. It’s connected to a Uniden UBCD396T set to receive the Tasmanian Government EDACS radio network used by Tasmania Police. It’s set to pickup communications from Mount Wellington so only covers Southern Tasmanian. No guarantees on uptime but feel free to give it a try at:

Does anybody the scanner frequency for tasmania police?

  4. admin says:

Hi Jordan, check the following pages that shows the EDACS frequency for Tasmania. Tasmania Police share the EDACS system with a few other users:

Hi Alex, it’s real-time within reason. I haven’t measured an exact time but it seems to be delayed by about 5 seconds presumably just the encoding and streaming delay.

No plans to move at the moment ;-) . Although the network is statewide they don’t normally broadcast traffic from the north to the Mt. Wellington site that I’m using. I have heard it rarely, I assume they just do it for operations that potentially statewide or if there is some problem in one of the other radio rooms.

EDACS has mostly gone digital – no trunktracker will get police coherrently anymore – at least in north west – july 2012….

  8. admin says:

Hi Mark, that’s interesting to know. Mt. Wellington is still on analog, I believe it’s capable of encrypted digial transmission but after trying it for a while they turned it back off due to coverage issues.

Just saw 4 police vehicles and 2 ambulances traveling down the main road through Derwent Park and was hoping to find out what was going on. Unfortunately I cannot get the stream to play in VLC, Windows Media Player also fails. Is the stream still online? I see that an average of 10 users are connected at any given time that I’ve checked.

VLC’s error log displayed this: http://pastebin.com/gfX6dBt2

  11. admin says:

Sorry for the delay getting back to you but yes should all still be OK and I see plenty of users online, do you still have the problem? I haven’t tried VLC but WMP works OK so maybe a temporary problem?

  12. admin says:

Hi Jordan, try the site http://www.scanningtasmania.org/ – they have some tutorials and a forum with a lot of active users.

  13. Brett says:

Hi, I noticed there is no radio traffic from Hobart or glenorchy units , any reason for this?

  14. Heather says:

Hi I was wondering if the feed still works as I am having trouble with it today

  15. admin says:

Hi Heather, seems OK now, must have just been a temporary problem.

  16. admin says:

Hi Brett, I’ll keep my eye on it but haven’t seen much from the Hobart call group lately. I might need to take it offline at some stage and check that I haven’t accidentally pressed the lockout button on that group.

Edit – Just checked and somehow the channel S23-Hobart was blocked, looks OK now.
